windows explorer s

Okay. Everytime I try to start Windows Explorer to back-up my files so I can get Windows XP back onto my computer, it will not start-up at all. Internet Explorer starts up just fine, yet Windows Explorer doesn't. When I do, all it does is show a grey screen than it stops responding, and I get that little annoying "Windows Explorer has shut down" and "We are searching for a resoulution. Well guess what...they don't have a resoulution, so I'm counting on all you smart people here to maybe figure out whats going on? thanks alot, brandon.
